This happened in San Diego, CA.
They called themselves “Elite Home Remake Pros”I’m a single mom and saved up for over a year to finally remodel our outdated kitchen. I hired “Elite Home Remake Pros” after seeing their ads on Instagram and a few decent reviews online. They came out, gave me a reasonable estimate, and I signed the contract.
Work started well — they did demo and ran some plumbing. But two weeks in, they stopped showing up. At first, they claimed supply issues. Then they stopped responding entirely. My kitchen has been gutted for 3 months. I’ve been feeding my kids from a hot plate and microwave.
Turns out, the contractor isn’t licensed with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). I know I need to file a complaint and post more on socials but what good will it really do?
Don’t fall for flashy marketing or pressure to “lock in” a date. Always verify licenses and references first and don’t pay more than 10% up front in my opinion. I learned that too late.
