FAQs

What is Bad Contractor Alert?

  • Answer: Bad Contractor Alert is a community-driven platform where individuals can share their experiences with contractors. Our goal is to help consumers avoid bad contractors by providing real-life reports, reviews, and legal advice related to home improvement services.

How do I share my bad contractor experience?

  • Answer: To share your experience, simply register on our site, navigate to the “Bad Contractor Reports” section, and create a new topic. Be sure to include the contractor’s name, the work they performed, the state where it occurred, and as many details as possible (photos, receipts, communication, etc.). If you decide to share receipts and/or photos or text messages, make sure to edit out any personal identification information, including but not limited to: credit card numbers, home address, home or personal cell phone number, social security number, bank account number, cryptocurrency seed phrases and even wallet addresses in some cases, and anything else that could potentially compromise you or someone else’s identity, finances, or safety. Just share the information related to your specific incident.

What do I do if a contractor who I had an issue with makes it right after I posted about the problem?

  • Answer: That’s really up to you but I would say to follow up your post with what the contractor did to make it right. We are all about truth, prevention, and recovery here. If someone fixed the problem they caused and made you whole, we think it’s important to share that as well. We aren’t here to destroy reputations of contractors who make mistakes.

What should I include in my bad contractor report?

  • Answer: In your report, include the contractor’s name, the type of work they performed, what went wrong, and any supporting documentation (e.g., contracts, emails, photos). Be sure to mention the state where the work was done, as we have regional sections for better organization.

Can I remain anonymous when posting?

  • Answer: While we respect your privacy, we encourage you to provide as many details as possible to make your report more helpful to others. However, you can choose to use a pseudonym instead of your real name.

How do I know if a report is legitimate?

  • Answer: We encourage honesty and factual information. All reports are subject to moderation, and we ask that users refrain from posting defamatory or unverifiable claims. Reports that violate our guidelines, or are otherwise deemed by the admin to be damaging to the community or it’s members, will be removed.

How can I get legal advice about my contractor issue?

  • Answer: You can post your real issues with contractors in the forums, read blog posts, and get advice from individuals. However, the only way to get real legal advice is to consult real legal counsel. BadContractorAlert.com and it’s employees do not represent themselves as legal counsel and none of the information on this site is to be taken as legal advice in any way shape or form. Again, for legal advice you need to find and consult with real legal counsel. You can potentially start your search for legal counsel by checking the BAR Association directory for your specific US state.

Can I edit or delete my posts?

  • Answer: Yes, you can edit your posts if you need to add more information or make corrections. If you wish to delete your post, you can request removal by contacting our moderation team.

Are there any restrictions on what I can post?

  • Answer: We do not allow defamatory, offensive, or unlawful content. All posts should be factual, and you should avoid making unverified claims. Please refer to our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines for a full list of acceptable and prohibited content.

Can I share personal information about the contractor?

  • Answer: Please refrain from sharing personal or sensitive information about the contractor (e.g., home addresses or private contact info). Stick to sharing the details relevant to the work performed and your experience. This ensures we maintain a respectful and legal space for all users.

How can I search for reports in my area?

  • Answer: You can search for reports by state or contractor name using the search bar at the top of the page. You can also browse by region (e.g., West, East) to find reports specific to your area.

How can I support this community?

  • Answer: You can help by sharing your own experiences, reporting bad contractors, and spreading the word about Bad Contractor Alert. The more people participate, the stronger and more reliable our community becomes. We also set up a donation page.

Is Bad Contractor Alert available in my state?

  • Answer: Yes! Our platform is nationwide, and you can share contractor reports from any state. Use the regional sections to find reports relevant to your location.
